Laser and light-based treatments can be suitable for certain small visible blood vessels, including facial veins, spider veins and broken capillaries. Larger or deeper veins may require a different treatment approach, which will be discussed during your assessment.
Controlled energy is directed towards the targeted blood vessel and absorbed by haemoglobin within the blood. This heats the vessel, causing it to close gradually. The body then naturally processes the treated vessel over time, making it progressively less visible.
The number of sessions depends on the size, depth, location and number of vessels being treated, as well as your individual response. Some vessels may improve quickly, while others may require several sessions.
Most patients experience brief warmth, tingling or a snapping sensation during treatment. Comfort varies depending on the treatment area and individual sensitivity, and your practitioner will explain what to expect beforehand.
Successfully treated vessels may remain closed, but laser treatment cannot prevent new visible vessels from developing in the future. Genetics, ageing, sun exposure and other factors can contribute to the formation of new veins, which may require future treatment.
